Ross Arkell was born in Chicago, Illinois and studied with Sarkis Sarkisian, John Foster and Nicholas Buhaus at The Art School of the Society of Arts and Crafts. He is a fellow of Yaddo and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and has exhibited throughout much of the United States and Canada. He has resided in Penhook, Virginia since 1993.

He is a fellow of Yaddo and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and has exhibited throughout much of the United States and Canada. He has resided in Penhook, Virginia since 1993.
I paint to draw a bit of drama from the mundane and to record the character of the landscape and the houses that we have placed upon it.
My goal is to use the paint with strength, joy and definition– to keep the brus alive. The pleasure is the pleasure of doing it.
